What Is Title I?

Title I is a federally funded program under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). It is the largest federal education program for K–12 schools and is designed to ensure that all children—regardless of socioeconomic status—have access to a high‑quality, equitable education. 

Title I funding supplements (not replaces) state and local resources and is specifically intended to support schools serving higher percentages of students from low‑income families, with a focus on closing academic achievement gaps.

Why Title I Matters at Our School

As a Title I school, Delano Optional School receives additional federal funding to strengthen teaching and learning for all students. These resources allow us to provide extra academic support and learning opportunities that help every student succeed, particularly in reading, mathematics, and core academic areas. 

Title I ensures that:

• High expectations are set for all students
• Instruction is aligned to state academic standards
• Student progress is regularly monitored and shared with families

How Title I Drives Education at Delano Optional

Title I funding directly supports our school improvement efforts in the following ways:

✅ Strengthening Instruction

Title I resources help support high‑quality classroom instruction, evidence‑based teaching strategies, and instructional materials aligned to Tennessee academic standards.

✅ Academic Support for Students

Funds may be used for targeted or schoolwide academic supports such as intervention programs, tutoring, extended learning opportunities, and additional instructional staff to meet student needs. 

✅ Family and Community Engagement

Title I emphasizes strong partnerships between schools and families. Resources support family engagement activities, communication, and resources to help parents support learning at home.

✅ Continuous School Improvement

Title I schools conduct regular needs assessments and develop schoolwide plans focused on improving student outcomes. These plans are reviewed and updated annually to ensure funds are being used effectively and responsibly.
